In the Layers box, right-click the layer, and then click Add Layer Mask.Choose Layer -> Transparency -> Colour to Alpha.Choose Layer -> Transparency -> Add Alpha Channel.Step 2: Select the area you want to make transparent using any of GIMP’s selection tools. I like ImageJ, especially if I want to make a black-and-white version, because I can readily switch the image to greyscale then threshold to remove any spots in the background. If it needs cleaning up, use your favourite tool for that.In my case, I viewed the PDF at large size, hit Print Screen, pasted the result into MSPAINT and then cropped. In my case, I am using a photocopier that will email me a PDF version. According to GIMP’s documentation, the Fuzzy Select Tool allows you to select areas of an image based on color similarity.
